Cracked Vaio Sony Screen

Hello there,

How should I repair my cracked Vaio Sony laptop screen? Should I take it to a professional or order a screen online? Where should I take it/ which website would sell the appropriate screen? Which would be less expensive? Also, I looked online for a screen for the PCG-5P4L model...could not find one...would another model's screen be appriate for my PCG-5P4L?

Thanks so much!

Hi there,

Even if you do search using the correct model number which should be around the screen bezel, you have to be careful which screen you order. Some laptops, especially Sony Vaios, will have a number of different screens that can fit each model and you have to order the correct one. Your best bet is to remove the screen and find out the screens part no which is allocated on the back of the removed screen. Once you have this you can order the correct screen. The screen has to be exchanged like for like otherwise it will not work!

If you have any problems, try ringing a screen supplier company. A lot of the time they are happy to advise and help you before purchase, just make sure they accept returns if they send you the wrong one..

I am not in any way suggesting you attempt to replace the screen yourself. If you feel comfortable doing this then by all means that is your choice, but if not I would fully recommend taking it too a professional.

Hi mhuang13.

I think you may have more luck if you search using the correct Vaio model name.  PCG-5P4L is probably the chassis model number which can be shared by all Vaios in the series and is not a valid model name.

Have a look on the screen surround for the correct model name which will be something like VGN-SRxxxx

Searching for "vgn-sr screen replacement" gives lots of hits!!
