Display darkens on boot

Recently i reinstalled XPhome on my Vaio PCG-FX602. On boot the display randomly darkens to almost no display at all. I can hardly see my mouse move on the screen. When i close the lid, the system goes on standby. When awakening from standby, the display is as normal. But it repeatedly the problems re-appears. It even happens when in BIOS, so its not Windows related...
Could a flash BIOS solve the problem? Or is there another workaround?
(btw: i don't want to run a flash BIOS, because on another vaio it didn't work. Vaio broken, expensive repair...)

If , as you say, it happens when in the Bios, I would agree its not a Windows problem and is hardware related.

It may be as simple as a ribbon cable replacement, but it will need to be diagnosed.

Its not Bios related and as you say Bios upgrades are best avoided.

To let it be diagnosed is also a bit expensive. What about checking it myself? Just to see if the all the cables are connected.

Nice bike btw.

Thanks for the bike comment!

I weould not think any cables have become disconnected but perhaps there is an intermiitent "break" in the connector between your motherboard and screen or perhaps it is backlight related.

Either way you could spend money replacing parts that are not broken.

Do you have a local laptop repair centre that could help, as I agree out of warranty Sony repairs will be expensive.

Sounds like that inverter problem a lot of FX users had (wonder what ever happened to Elaine?)

She married a guy from Aberdeen and is now living in Bandung. No internet access there unfortunately but she sends her regards:smileyhappy:
