The quick answer is probably yes, but there are other considerations.
Your model has a max supported RAM of 2GB and you would need to upgrade to this in order achieve acceptable performance. Win 7 is less memory hungry than Vista and some people report that Win 7 will run on 1GB RAM - I am somewhat sceptical out that claim.
A major problem will be finding drivers that will work with your hardware. There is no Sony support provided for this model under Vista, let alone Win 7.
You will also lose all of the functions provided by the Sony utilities - Fn keys etc.
Your call, but I would stick with XP.
