Does replacing a harddrive invalidate my warranty?

Hi - I've recently received a new Sony Vaio SVE1712Z1EB following a problem with my old Sony Vaio. I was wondering whether replacing the new harddrive with the one from the old laptop (as it had all my stuff on it and was win7 rather than win8) would invalidate my warranty, and whether if I were to need to claim under my warranty I could just place the new hard drive back in and then send it off?

Hi luhares and welcome.

Opening the case will invalidate the warranty as long as Sony can see it has been opened.

I don't know which model you had previously but I think the BIOS will be different on a new model and a straight swap may need extra steps to be taken.

Ok thanks - I had the exact same laptop before but with an intel i5 rather than i7. Would that make a difference?
