I have recently been using the system to watch DVD and according to the sticker on the front of the tower it has capability to put out Dolby digital to any headset??
Can anyone explain how??
Also I would really like to have DD 5.1 and DTS 5.1 through my speakers, I have recently purchased a Philips A3.610 5.1 speaker package and want to make better use of it. I also have an external "hercules DJ consol" which has all sorts of I/O. Can this help?
PS I just have the standard Yamaha soundcard?
Thanks
Hmmmm.
The whole DD through headphones thing is a bit of a con. It downmixes the signals and makes them as "surroundy" as possible, if you see what I mean. Funnily enough, they do sound good.
As for getting the correct signal out, that's another story
To get true Dobly Digital output, your card needs to have either an Optical Output or a digital coaxial output. Not many bundled sound cards do, as far as I'm aware.
The reason you need this is most home cinema amps only have coaxial digital inputs and optical inputs. Only these can be translated into true DD and DTS etc.
With regards to the IO board you mentioned, I don't know anything about that card so I can't comment.
If you have to have true DD and can't get it from the PC directly, a new sound card or the Sigma Designs Realmagic Hollywood Plus card is a hardware decoder for DVDs and has a true coaxial output.
