DVD burn speed can't go more than X4

The drive installed on my laptop is a SONY DVD-RW DW-D56A with firmware version PFS3. Although it suppose to burn X8 it never made it to burn more than X4. I have tried various media brands with no luck, neither with the Sonic RecordNow preinstalled software, nor with Nero.

I thought the D56A burned at max 4x?

Thats the fastest speed it ever burned for me.

By the by, some lower-quality discs burn slower than their supposed speed. eg I have a load of 4x blank DVD+Rs but they only burn at 2x on my drive because they're shite quality. Other 4x discs of higher quality burn at 4x.

To get decent 8x you need really good DVDs with coatings from Ritek

thanks for your replies. I have tried several "good" - high quality DVDs incluide SONY DVD+-R, Intenco, TDK etc... but no luck, all burn at X4 although drive's specs is X8

what exactly is "coatings from Ritek"?

on ebuyer if you type in Ritek it shows you DVDs with the coating - which is meant to be the best - specially R4 grade

Problem resolved using media SONY DPR120A3
