dvd rom not recognising blank dvd's as being blank.

Hi all,

I have just registered and I'm looking for advice.

My problem is, when I insert a blank dvd into the drive to copy home movies ect it states that the disc is full. I then go into properties for the disc and it reads bytes 0 free space 0. I can assure you that the disc's are blank I have been using the same make discs for months now with no problems, I have also tried other makes of dvd's. when I insert a cd the correct advice comes u i:e blank cd-bytes 0 free space 700mb. I have inserted and played without any problems dvd movies of all sorts.

Hi badgermcg and welcome.

Exactly what type of discs are you using?
What model Vaio do you have?
Vista or XP?
What program are you using to burn DVDs?

try a system restore to a time before the optical drive went wonky
