Hi Niv,

There are plenty posters with questions but unfortunately few members prepared to help on a regular basis so it can take a while to get a reply.

Optiarc is now Sony Optiarc. I have found the Optiarc dvdrw-7560S for sale in the USA. This is a SATA drive and the AD-7590S or AD-7960H would seem to be a suitable replacement. Hopefully reattaching the existing bezel will be less of a problem with a similar model from the same manufacture.

I hope this is of some help.

Hi Niv,

In theory any modern slimline DVD RW drive should fit but attaching the bezel (face plate) may take a bit of ingenuity. If you post details of the manufacturer and model number then someone may be able to provide advice.

This link may be of interest.

Thanks for picking 3 out for me Rich, out of the 2 mentioned, not the 7560S which I currently have and can not find cheap online. Which would be most suitable out of the 2. Like last the longest and is the newest model, ive read some to be better then others?

Also will they definately work on my laptop model mentioned just to confirm?

Lastly actually replacing old one with the new one, will installation be hard, i.e. screws etc?

Cheers for the info

Hi Niv,

It is impossible for me to give a definitive answer to your questions. All I can say is that the two alternative drives should work but you need to address your questions to the supplier if you need guaranties.

Unfortunately I don’t have disassembly instructions for the VGN- CS series and I suggest that you start another thread for further help.

Thanks Rich, all everybody for the help! I managed to buy a second hand dvd-rw and replace it, was a nightmare with the many screws. Unfortunately relating to another topic, while under going this process a managed to scrach my cover 'chassis' and would like to replace this with a newer one. Looked online but can not find one...VGN-CS16G. If you could direct me, towards purchasing such item, would be great!

Hi rob619,

Suppliers of Sony  Vaio parts a far and few between but for a second hand part have a look here:

Alternatively try eBay.

Hmmmm, dam there not cheap are they! For a piece of plastic dont know if its worth it? The laptop is semi-new and the scratches just big me, make it look worse. Obviously it doesnt effect the performance. The stuff on ebay is second hand, say that would have scratches on it anyways, which is more then likely. Dno what to do?
