i have a sony vaio vpccb2m0e, its only about 6 months old, but when i try to burn dvd's i get the following message :- failed to start the image writing operation error while burning image 80004003 error while aborting ..... it burns cdr's but not dvd's, i use roxio 10, anyone got any ideas what the problem is?
Hi castleman44,
Has it worked previously or is this the first time you have tried it?
What make of DVDs are you using? Are you using good ones like Sony, Verbatim, TDK?
In Device Manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers -> Primary IDE Channel -> Properties -> Advanced Settings -> Current Transfer Mode.
Check that both Device 0 and Device 1 are using Ultra DMA Mode.
If you Google, you will see this is common in all versions of Roxio and seems to happen quite often. Roxio Technical Support are not very helpful and they just advise a firmware upgrade for your drive: -

Unfortunately there is no new firmware available on the support pages for your model, however there are lots of things to try on Google: -

Sorry I don't know a simple answer - perhaps someone else has some other ideas.
hi biencogo
first time i have used the burner, but found out tonight it plays dvd's but not blueray!!!
the vaio diagnostics says no disc in drive when i do test, as for ultra dma mode, i'm new to windows 7 and can't seem to find settings.
i have also used nero, easy dvd burner as well as roxio and get the same message.
i have been on roxio forums, and yes it was useless,,, used sony discs and maxell with same results.
thanks for help, if can,t find an answer may have to ring sony, its still under warranty maybe drive not working as it should.
