Hi oldhosk and welcome.

Go to the support page for your model here: -

http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/vgc-lm2e

Under 'Hot News' at the bottom, click on "Distorted Video ......" and you will see a statement from Sony on this fault.

Hopefully, your Vaio is less than 4 years old and will qualify for a free repair.

You will need to contact Sony Support on the 'Out of Warranty' premium telephone line 0905 0310006.  Have the Vaio's Serial Number ready.

The system has changed recently, so if you have problems talking to Support, come back here and we will try to help further.

Looks like a faulty LCD to me. When it still boots up before Windows (black and white displays, are the vertical lines still present? https://imagicon.info/cat/12-13/vmware_happy.gif
