FE11S: extern HD MyBook Premium Western Digital not installed ?

Hello,
I have get western digital MyBook Premium ES extern USB disk.
If I connect it to VGN-FE11S, it comes driver install wizard.
He looks for driver software.
He found hothing. HD is not connected.
In HW-manager I have a warning "My book"-another hardware.
Each other USB plugins can be installed.

What can be do?

WDC HD is just a drive in a USB enclosure, should not search for drivers. What version of Windows do you have? Does the HD works on others PCs?

I just bought a MyBook!

Hello,
on the WD - Site there are not any Windows-XP drivers.
I use Windows XP Prof.

On other, older Notebook also with WinXP Prof,
WD-MyBook is being authomaticaly istalled and can be used.
On vaio, it starts a driver wizard!

Is there any possibility manually install searching drivers?

Hi roman_i,

From time to time Windows throws a wobbly and can’t find the native drivers. Try pointing the wizard in the direction of C:\Windows\inf.

I have try it. Any driver can not be found.
I have seen by booting Vaio, that BIOS find this device.

Only XP can this not install.

Hi roman_i,

This is very strange as most USB devices install from native Windows drivers. I take it that you didn’t receive an installation CD with the drive?

Try updating the driver for the device in Device Manager (Right click My Computer Icon > Properties > on the Hardware tab click Device Manager).

Locate "My book" > right click this and select ‘Update Driver’. On the next window select ‘No, not this time’ and click Next. On the following window select ‘Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) > click next.

You then have two options -

1. ‘Search for the best driver in theses locations’ > browse to C:\Windows\inf to included it in the search and click next.

2. If that is not accepted as the correct driver then go back and select ‘Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install.’ And click Next.

Hopefully you will see the correct hardware listed, but if not then click ‘Have Disk’ and again browse to the location of the relevant .inf file.

One of these methods will hopefully pick up the correct driver.

I have an idea. I think the main problem here is that MyBook is getting a lot of power from the USB which the laptop doesn't have.

I have found an older PC, which could recognize this USB thing.
I have exported some registry keys and read it by VAIO.
Now, VAIO can work with MyBook.

I am still waiting for a reply post from WD.
