Freeze on Shutdown

Occasionally when I try to shut down my FE21H it freezes, and I have to take out my battery and put it back in.

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Chris

Hi Chris,

Could be lots of things but the usual culprit is the webcam.

Either find it in Device Manager (it will be on one of the USB Hubs) and under Power Management turn off the "Allow the system to turn off this device to save power"

If this works then there is a Microsoft Hotfix available to cure the problem permanently FROM HERE

That's a shame - the webcam is the usual culprit.

It is a matter of finding the device or driver responsible - which is not easy. The second favourite is the network card - you could try the same change in Power Management for that.

You could also try the Microsoft Hotfix UPHCLEAN which may help.

Are you using Norton? This can also cause the problem as ccApp refuses to close. If you use it, try shutting Norton down manually before turning off.

As I said, it could be a lot of things - probably triggered by a Microsoft update - and it becomes a matter of trial and error!!
