graphics driver update collides with Win7

I installed Win7 on my VGN-FZ11S. I then upgraded the graphics driver to the latest one. The startup now stops at the moving Windows screen. I have to restart in safe mode, roll back the driver to "standard VGA graphics adapter" and then restart. But with this driver I can't use software like Windows DVD maker. And, in the meantime, the Vaio screen at the beginning of the startup is now all messed up... Can anyone help?

Two possible causes: -

1.  The driver you have installed is incompatible with Windows 7.  What version of the nVidia graphics driver did you install and where did you get it from?

2.  It is possible that your  nVidia graphics chip has failed.  Is the same distortion seen in the BIOS screens as well?  As a known fault, Sony have extended the warranty for this problem from 1 year to 4 years.  How old is your Vaio?

1. the nVidia graphics driver was updated via Windows, automatically. So, I suppose it is the latest version. I also tried downloading from the nVidia site and installing, and I get the same problem.

2. The distortion also shows in the BIOS screen. My VAIO will be 4 years old in July, I think I'll contact Sony now. Please see attached image.
