GRX316MP Hard Drive problem please help

My Vaio PCG-GRX316MP's hard rive has started malfunctioning after 3 years use. After about 10 minutes the drive starts making very odd clicking and whirring noises and has to be shut down. I am no techy but I am guessing the drive has had it, with this in mind can anyone tell me how to remove the old drive and what the specs for a new replacement drive would be along with a sudgestion of a supplier (I am in the UK). Thank you for any help you can give.

Hi John

Also a GRX316MP owner, apparently the drive is in some sort of bay, so it just comes out quite easily (or do I have the wrong model, never had to do it!)

I know it uses a 2.5" hard disk, and it should work with a 30GB + drive.

Thanks for the swift reply. The odd thing is that if turned off for 20 minutes the machines boots up again, but I guess the HD is still stuffed as the problem just occurs again after 10 minutes of use. Is there a maximum speed, size of a new hard drive? Can it take a 60gig? I cant seem to find any help on the Sony site.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Just for the record, the hard drive is easy to remove it is contained in a drive caddy located on the right hand edge to the right of the battery access point. Slide the switch to unlock and remove the small cross head screw. As for the drive specifications they can be found here LINK
I have yet to find out what the maximum drive size is that the 316MP will take. Any help still appreciated.

I think 60GB is no problem. I would prever a Hitachi drive. They are pretty fast (and that with 4200RPM). But have a look at the buffer size. It's really importand. 8MB is minimum, particuarly with a drive which has only 4200 RPM.

Just had a look at mine, simple to remove.

It should be able to take a 6)GB, there was a BIOS update late 2002.
