Hi Shiona and welcome to Club Vaio.
There are many programs for this. Please tell us what model Vaio you have so we know what is preinstalled on your model as different models over the years have had different software installed.
What cable connection does your camera have apart from the AV output? This may also change the recommendations.
Thanks for the answer - model is VGN-FS515H and I have a USB connection for the camera.

Hi Shiona.
You should have Windows MovieMaker on your Vaio - look in 'All Programs' on the start menu.
Have a look at this tutorial which will show you how to capture video to your Vaio using a DV connection or if you scroll down the tutorial, it will tell you how to capture using the USB connection.

Windows MovieMaker is quite good but if you want to go for something more advanced that will capture direct by USB and give you control over sound dubbing and timeline editing, you will need to try Adobe Premiere Elements - but it will cost you:

Try the Adobe website, there is often a free trial for 30 days to see if you like it.
Thanks for the info - but the Vaio does not recognise the camera. I have checked the cable - that works on other devices. Any ideas on how to make the Vaio recognise the Vaio?
Cheers
Shiona
