Hi all,
Forgive the dumb question, but I want to upgrade the 64MB Radeon 9200 graphics card in my laptop.
Does the motherboard support PCI express cards, or do I have to stick with AGP, and what cards would people recommend? I need excellent 3d performance as a primary requisite.
Thanks all in advance
Hi worblehat and welcome to Club Vaio.
Sorry but it is bad news I'm afraid. Only a very small handful of the very latest and very largest notebook computers have interchangeable graphics chips.
Your Ati Radeon chip is soldered into the main board of your K215Z and is not economically updateable. This is the big disadvantage of buying a laptop - although desktop computers are upgradeable, laptop upgrades are usually limited to adding memory and fitting a faster hard drive.
Hi, Thanks for the rapid response. Ok, If I was able to get hold of another chip, is it possible to replace the current one (what will the motherboard support?). The cost is not really an issue as I can do this myself.
No that wouldn't work - as the motherboard only supports that hardware.
