Hi, how do i check if somebody messed up my sony vaio laptop

Hi all,

I  got a new sony vaio laptop but i am not very good with computers.Yesterday i bought my laptop brought it home and showed it to my flatmates who are very good with technology.I played with it a bit and then i went out. When i came back and switched it on it was not working proper there was a desktop failure then my flatmate manage to restore it from the begning. Now i'm worried if it's o'k as it seems a bit slow.My flatmates is creating a new laptop from two old ones so i was wandering is it possible he exchange some parts from my laptop with the one he is making?is that possible? He knows i don't know anything so he may take advantage.

Please help!

Hi mariya2103,

There are very few components that could be swapped without major disassembly but one obvious thing to check would be the memory chips as these are easily accessible.

Unfortunately you have not given us the model number so we can’t advise on what should be fitted. A processor swap is also a possibility but unlikely.

Hi there :

Yes - it would be noticeable (especially if its a laptop) if someone has tried to disassemble then reassemble it.

(Look at the screws and the casing)

You said there was a "desktop failure. "Can you elaborate a little on that?

(Was the pc performing any particular function at the time e.g. browsing the net or windows update? Was it a blue screen or any lines across the display? Did your flatmate witness it?)

Again, we need a bit more info if possible.
