How can I keep my laptop battery good....?!?

Hello again,.....I have a vgn-fe21M a fine fine machine,...

I heard it is better to pull the battery from your laptop when you work one wall volt,....this way the battery will stay longer o.k,....is this true??
(even knowing that vaio automatically changes his from energy source when I use wall volt)

And if it is true is it better to store your battery charged or empty..
