I upgraded from XP Media Centre to Vista Ultimate and lost the use of the motion eye camera

I have a VGN-AR 21S and I upgraded from XP Media Centre to Vista Ultimate. I have lost the use of the motion eye camera, I think this is something to do with the Sigma Tell CODEC HD audio driver but I'm not sure. I have tried to download the new driver 6.10.0.5286 from Sony Downloads but it doesn't install correctly although the computer propertities say the device is working properly.

Other issues I have are Sonic Solutions DLA Driver is not compatible with Vista and causes an incompatibility dialogue box to constantly reappear.
Start up programs blocked dialogue box appears even when all start up programs are disabled.
The Windows installation wizzard does not always install downloads properly.
Skype will not function.
I guess there are more issues that I have not experienced yet.

Generally most aspects of the upgrade have worked but I have no solutions for the issues I've described.

I have telephoned Sony Tech and Microsoft Tech on these issues on many occassions and with their help I have tried various potential solutions but all to no avail.

I will watch this thread with interest and hope there is a genius out there willing to come to my aid.

Kind regards John

How exactly have you lost the use of it?
The reason I ask is that when I did a clean install of Vista on my laptop, I noticed the camera was not called the Sony whatever camera

Infact, it was under "imaging devices" and listed as a normal usb camera or something along those lines
It was only after I upgraded that device to the sony driver did it recognise.

Now on top of that, the drvers are not perfect. There is almost 90% of the users on here that use Vista with a integrated camera laptop but they cannot use it as there are issues with the drivers.

Did you also run the Vista Upgrade compatibility test prior to upgrading? I vaguely remember Sonic Stage NOT being compatible with it. I dont have it installed myself and mines running fine.

Skype at present is Windows 2000/XP only though their forums to show Beta testing (3.0 i think) for Vista... have a look on their forums.

Hope this helps

Hi Akash84,

Many thanks for your reply, I believe the motion eye camera is opperated with the Sigma Tel CODEC Driver which the computer says is working properly but the camera is not recognised at all by the computer. There is no evidence of the camera hardward in the computer properties.

I will double check against imaging devices as you propose.

I did run the Windows Vista Advisor before upgrading and carried out all of the recomended tasks first and followed up with the post install tasks.

Thank you for letting me know about Skype, I will check out the web page.

Many thanks again Kind regards John.
