Install XP SP2 on FE41S

Hi,

I've had a Vaio FE41S for a month or so now and it's great. Vista Home Premium installed and everything works fine. Nice machine.

However, for various reasons, I'd like to reformat and put a fresh install of XP SP 2 on. I did actually do this, but struggled to get NVidia GeForce Go 7600 XP drivers and chipset drivers for XP. Everything was weird and XP had a million messed up items in device manager. So I ended up going through the lengthy process of recovering from my backup DVD's (thank goodness i made them) to get back to Vista. So I'm back to where I started, but still would really like to go to XP SP2.

Has anyone done this? Can you point me in the right direction? And where to get the appropriate drivers, particularly video, chipset etc. I did download some NVidia drivers from softpedia back in mid feb but they didn't work. Help!?!

Many thanks.

Hi mister_s and welcome to Club Vaio.

I think those who have managed this have used the Preinstalled XP Drivers and the Preinstalled XP Utilities from VGN-FE31Z DOWNLOADS

The FE31Z has XP installed and has the same nVidia card. I presume it also has the same chipset.

Thanks man. That worked a treat.

The audio was a bit odd - but I figured it out. The Microsoft KB update was tucked in a folder within the audio drivers folder. It appears that has to be applied first.

Glad you've sorted it mister_s

The KB888111 UAA driver seems to be in different places with different models - I think they just move it about to keep everyone on their toes !!!!

Sorry my question:
But is it normal to by a new Notebook buy a new operating system and load then an old one ???
Why you need XP SP2 ???
I think your Notebook is configurated for Vista compatible Home Premium Systems and NOT for XP!!!
Your System uses an new chipsets a Processor is made with two Kernel and 2 GB RAM.
I dont think that the drivers from FE31 Model are really compatible with your System.
I think if something is damaged you dont get guarantee of it.
Sorry for my bad english at this time but i would say you should load the right System for your Notebook System.
Or you should explain why you use now Windows xp as your favorite System.
I think if you say us the reason we could find another better way for your Problem.
For example.:
if yoiu have Problems with an old Game you could load only this game in a seperate are with your graphic array tool on vista and you can use a compatible Modus for Windows XP.
I think this is a better way as to deinstall your new System.
