Installing software

I recently purchased a new Vaio VGN-S1XP. I have re-installed the OS using my own copy of Windows XP and customized my own software setup etc. However I now wish to install some of the software I purchased with my laptop but I seem to be unable to do so without using the restore disks to do a full restore. I would be grateful if you could point me in the correct direction.

Thats the problem with doing that - you can't install the software bundled with the unit as it's locked into the package.

Well I don't see why I shouldn't be able to install MY software the way I want. Afterall I paid for the software licenses. At no point during the purchase of my laptop did I sign anywhere to say that in order to use the software I was purchasing I had to install it the way Sony deemed I should.

As it turns out I uncompressed the files on the software DVD and installed the programs I wanted. I should NOT have had to go through the trouble I did to install software I legally own.

Unfortunately there's no banging head on desk icon so I'll use the post-banging one :smileyd_oh: You are by no means the first and you will not be the last to have a bit of a moan about this.

Sony are going to face a mass-revolt if they don't get their act together in one or two areas. This would be a good example of one such area.

I agree, totally frustrating.
