hi. I have a FS215 vaio with 1 gb ram currently running. As far as I know, fs4xx series vaios have the same cpu, same mainboard chipset (intel 915 something), as fs2xx series. but FS4xx series and some 2xx series have max of 2 gb ram but 215z is said to have 1 gb maximum ram. and although the chipsets are the same, fs4xx series uses a ddr2 but mine uses a ddr ram. can somebody help on this topic? what are the differences between fs2xx and fs 4x series. what happens if I install 2x1 gb ddr ram instead of 2x512 mb. thanks for the help
No the maximum usable RAM in a FS2xx series is 512MB per slot = 1024MB.
But the maximum usable RAM in a FS3xx series is 1024MB per slot = 2048MB.
It has nothing to do with the processor or chipset - it is whether the motherboard resources can use the memory.
At best your FS215Z just will not use more than 1024MB - at worst you will damage your Vaio by inserting more than the published limit.
