Is my vaio lying about its DVDRW?!!

i have a PCG-GRT815E. Supposedly it has DVD +-RW. It has a sticker on the darn thing to prove it. On 'My computer 'it only ever comes up as DVD-R and when i put in a blank dvd rw disc to burn, it just tells me to insert a recordable disc. Nero doesn't recognise that I have DVD RW either. I just don't get it.

I think it's only a "-" drive.

I allso have the grt815e yes it is a + and - drive i have the sony dw-u50a drive in mine with firmware 1.5g

Hi! Does it record onto blank DVD RW disks. But when i put one in it just tells me to insert a recordable disc. I downloaded firmware 1.g the other day.Does it need some other software to recognise them?

Is it + or - rw and what is the make of discs you are using

it's a +RW and it's a PCline disc

Make sure you get some Ritek media, PCLine are not very good.

i'm not sure that the discs are the problem though because Nero doesn't recognise that i have dvd burning facility and i can only burn cd's with it and in 'My computer' it's always DVD-R. The computer doesn't seem to understand that it has a dvd-rw drive. Any advice Kee-lo?:smileyconfused:

Ah I see.
This is definately not good... I would try the "-" type, otherwise I think it'll have to go back to Sony for a repair.

Thanx. You've confirmed my suspicions. it was a display model so that might have something to do with it. Nero should have recognised the dvd burning facility whether it had a disc in or not, right?
