Hi David and welcome to Club Vaio.

Jucheck.exe is the automatic update checker for your Java Platform.

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/java_update.xml

If you just agree to the program making changes to you Vaio, it will update Java and not bother you again until the next time it is scheduled to check for updates.

As updates are very rare, most people simply turn off the automatic updating facility in the Java Console to stop the update program taking up memory space by running in the background - IE or Firefox will remind you if there is an update needed.

With XP the Java Console could be accessed from Control Panel but with Vista and Windows 7 the changes cannot be saved so you will need to browse to the console in explorer. Go to:

C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javacpl.exe

and right-click on it -> choose run with admin privileges. Uncheck java update, save and then reopen it to check that the setting is saved.

If this fails you may need to edit the registry to stop it running - come back for tjis if you need it.

But the short term fix is to agree to it updating your Vaio.
