Keyboard is doing odd things

I have registered by Vaio, I have a laptop, PCG-7A1M, and the right arrow key seems to be stuck at times. It makes all of the selections on th web or in word or otherwise jump all over the place, and when I type normally, the keyboard seems to be adding a return every once in a while.

When I start up the machine, it beeps loudly, like if you were holding down a key, until I tap the arrows gently, and it stops and allows the bios to start up. On top of that, the arrow key doesnt even work!

I have updated all my windows components, Vaio software, and done all of the troubleshooting I can do. I think it might be a hardware problem, as it happens before anyhting loads on the mahicne. This is before XP even loads.

Any help would be appreicated.

Hi cuhl,

Welcome to Club Vaio,

As your problem starts before windows loads have you tried resetting the BIOS..

When you start your VAIO press F2 repeatedly when you see the Sony logo to enter the BIOS.
Once in the BIOS press F9 to restore the default settings (F5 for VAIO desktops). press enter to confirm then F10 to save and exit the BIOS, then press enter to confirm..

Hi cuhl and welcome to the forum.

If Thalamus’s suggestion has no effect then I suggest that you speak to Sony Support as the symptoms you describe sound to be hardware related, i.e. a faulty keyboard.
