Laptop not reading discs

For some reason it isn't reading any discs at all, It won't read data discs or proper DVDs or even cds? However itunes picked up the dics I was putting in to convert the songs, but when putting the discs in without itunes open, nothing happens. I've gone to start>run>cd drive:F and theres nothing in it.

Getting a bit fed up now, this is the second major fault (first being recovery partition doesnt exist)and its 3 months old.

Please someone help.

Hi Matt,

Yes - choose Uninstall in Device Manager and then re-boot your Vaio (using Restart). This will force Windows to reload the drivers for the drive.

You can check the Autoplay feature if you like: -

My Computer -> Right-click on the DVD/CD-ROM drive -> Properties -> Autoplay

Click on Music CD and choose Windows Media Player from the list. Do the same for other types of disc that you want to run automatically.

:wink:

I went into device manager and uninstalled the DVD Drive like you guys suggested. But still no luck.

I've found though, that when i-tunes is open, if I then put a DVD in - it will play! So i'm guessing somewhere along the line i-tunes is stopping discs being read. I haven't got a clue as to why this might be. If anyone has any suggestions please share them with me, as im major confused!

Hi Matt,

This is a long shot, but try uninstalling i-tunes, reboot and see whether this cures the problem.
