Looses firewire connection

when i connect a firewire external hdd, computer looses the connection and the hard drive dissappear.i downoad the patch rom microsoft.does anyone knows if this fixes the issue?

Does your hard disk come with a utility that spins down the hard disk every 20mins? If so disable that setting as it's probably the cause.

no i don't think that my hard drives has such a utility.maybe it's the external case of the hard drive but it worked good before.
