I HAVE A FRIEND WHO NEEDS TO USE MY COMPUTER FOR INSTANT MESSAGING BUT IS NOT ABLE TO DO SO. THE COMP WILL ONLY ALLOW ME TO USE THIS FUNCTION! HELP!!

You need to set up a Guest account on your computer.  You don't say what Operating System you are using or the model type of your computer so I cannot help in detail.

Here are instructions for activating a Guest Account using Vista:

If it is to be a long term arrangement with your friend, you could set up a new user account for

them to sign in to your computer wiith their own password.  Make sure this is not set up as an Administrator.  This is more risky for you and I recommend you just have a guest account that you can turn on and off when you like.
