Multiple Registration anyone?

Why is it that when you buy a new laptop you have to Register with the manufacturer? And why is it that even after you've done that, the laptop reminds you to register again after a week, and then again and then again and then again - even though it knows the registration data. Laptops are too busy looking after themselves and too busy to do anything the user wants.

As far as I am aware the registration popup is designed to prompt you to register your vaio and will keep doing so until you click do not remind me, whether you have registered or not..
