My HDD cant be seen during a clean install, HELP

hi guys firstly my laptop was running realy well untill i resized the partitions it crashed then said that "no operating system can be found"  so i decided to reinstall win7 only to find it cant see any hard drive to install onto....i suspect this is a driver problem but have tried the ones from the download section here to no avail my system is a VGN NS20E with no upgrades other than the os, this has me at my witts end and could do with a pointer or two before my sanity leaves me....HELP!!

It sounds like a Hard Drive may be damaged.

When you turn the Vaio on, do you see the Vaio logo before the Vaio tries to load?

If yes, press and hold F2 before this screen disappears and the BIOS screen should show on-screen.  Check in the BIOS screens to see if the Hard Drive is recognised by the BIOS.

If it is not recognised, then your Hard Drive is faulty and will need replacement.

That's bad advice. First you should always check the drive using a different machine to rule out the possibility of controller failure/driver issues.
