I bought my laptop 3 weeks ago, i have also the clicking disk sound (but i don't bother right now).. the problem with my vaio is the operating system...it's very unstable and i cannot install new software because i got the explorer.exe closing and restarting again.. only after a recovery the system behaves almost good...
The thing i'm trying to do is to install a new licenced OS probably MS Windows Pro because i'm running on Media but in the installation i got the message "No harddisk Found".. anyone bypass this and in what way?? i deleted all the partitions on the HD using Acronis and tryied that but no luck...
My system is a VGN-AR11B running on Windows Media Center...
This is my first post, we will have time to talk later on because now i'm heading to work.. Thanks for any replies..

Give people time to reply, there's often a days wait.
I would contact Sony about the hard disk, might be damaged

Hi, I think I'm having the same problem. My laptop is to be used in a work environment it needs to be able to join a domain. Currently this is not possible with Windows MCE so I want to install Windows XP Professional sp2. Unfortunately during the text based section of the install, setup cannot detect the hard drive. I've tried using the SATA drivers provided with a usb floppy drive, they install fine but the HDD still cannot be detected. Is there any way around this problem? Also I cannot access the recovery console, I get a blue screen. Hopefullly someone can find the solution.
Steve
i believe that with a new HDD will be fine but i don't have the money to go for one right now.... Even if the problem insists to be there i'm start thinking what will happen when Windows Vista will come out... i'm sure that the windows vista capable sticker is just there for marketing reasons
Anyone find a solution? I've seen a couple of posts on another website about solving it with different SATA drivers but they didnt say where they got them from.
Steve
If you're harddrive can't be detected after installing the drivers I'm convinced some drivers are either missing or not properly installed. If you write down exactly how you did I might be able to help you atleast one step ahead.
I recently posted a thread concerning this:

Tip=Go to Fujitsu and download the HDD tools, most drive manufactures have Diagnostic software to download for drive maintenance.
Don't understand the purpose of downloading that kind of software.
