My VGN-AW41MF dvd drive (BDC-TD01) no longer recognises blank DVDs

Hello there all.

My VGN-AW41MF dvd drive (BDC-TD01) no longer recognises blank DVDs

It was fine till a couple of months ago.

Now it will read Blu ray, DVD, CD.

But it will only write to blank CDs.

It fails to see any blank DVDs.

The device manager sees it and no updates are available.

Plus, in the device manager, on the Pioneer BDC-TD01 driver page it is described as a CD/DVD rom, shouldn't it be CDrw/DVDRW ?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Bobski.

Hi bobski23,

Have you tried different brands of DVD media – Sony and Verbatim work well on my machine? Some drives can be very fussy!

You could try cleaning the CD/DVD laser lens with a proprietary cleaner but as blank CD’s are recognised I doubt that this is the problem. Blu-ray uses a different laser lens.

The device being listed as a CD/DVD rom is normal.
