Need some info

Hi all,

I had some trouble with my sony laptop over 2 years ago and people such as Kee-Lo, jumpsuit and others gave me great advice and really seemed to know there stuff.

I've always loved sony and most electronics I own are sony from my HD TV to my mobile phone and with the exception of one laptop I've never had a problem with any of the products.

Anyway to my reason for posting. I am in the market for a new laptop and wish to give sony another try. Many good experiences > 1 bad experience.

I've read over a few sites etc and i think the VGN-FW41ZJ/H might be a good fit for me. I am looking for the following:
- A great multimedia system,
- Excellent screen picture and resolution,
- High performance regarding browsing, e-mail, downloading, multimedia and multi-tasking. I will not be using any high performance graphical software
- 15 to 17 inch screen, but I still want it to be portable with a decent battery life
- It may be used to play games but nothing that would be as needy as Football Manager

Are there any known problems associated with this model?
Can anyone recommend me a better fit?

Thanking you in advance

Ricky

Hi Rickycosgrove - glad to see you back again

I don't have experience of that model but have you ever looked at the AR or AW series?

Hey,

You think the drama I had with Sony was bad, I had a worse problem with a dell xps machine which took double the time to solve. I may be unlucky with laptops me thinks

I think the AW series is a too big for what I am looking for. I don't know anything about the AR series - I don't see it on the official Sony websites? After a quick google though it may be to hefty in price for what I want to spend.

Is there a legacy thread here with reviews of various user experiences of laptops?

Hi Ricky,

you may find the 'Explore the family' site of use as it gives you a brief introduction into the vaio models available. Use the following link to view: 'Explore the family'

Also 'Find & Compare' may help you choose your VAIO as it enables you to compare models depending on the options you choose. Use the following link to view: 'Find & Compare'

Cheers I looked those up.

I am just wondering if anyone has first hand of the above laptop so I know if it's got any queer bugs etc.

Hi Ricky,

As far as I recall I'm not aware of any issues with the FW series, unless anyone know differently..

Have you tried googling for reviews on the VGN-FW41ZJ/H, I noticed one small customer review on Amazon.?

Hi guys,

I am in need of your help yet again. I ended up buying 2 Sony laptops last time, (VGN-FW51JF & VPCZ1)

The former of the two has stopped working, when I say stopped working I mean the screen won't come on. The last time it was working regularly I turned it on, there was a white flash from the screen and then it stopped working.

The shop has told me to get in touch with Sony to get it repaired.

Can someone advice me the quickest way to get this done? Has anyone a contact number for Sony so I can arrange to have the laptop picked up and repaired.

I bought this in Ireland and I am living in Ireland.

Thanks,

Ricky

Hi Ricky,

I'm guessing your Z1 is still within warranty.?

If that is the case then the best option is to contact vaio support, either by clicking Support at the top of this page or use the following link:Vaio support

Under Log-in option 2: Select your VAIO model, next to Select Model Category - Select your model from the drop down list, in your case VPC Z.

Then next to Select Model - select Z1

Then click Log-In

Once logged select Get In Touch
