Hi.
I have a Vaio VGN-N21S/W that I bought online from play.com in late May 2007.
On a very regular basis I receive the following blue screen error:
***Hardware Malfunction
Call you hardware vendor for support
NMI: Parity check / Memory Parity Error
*** The system has halted ***
All I can do at this stage is power cycle the machine.
I have logged it with esupport & been told that it is a recognised fault that the Sony engineers are working on. The problem seems to be related to the in-built wireless adaptor & their suggested workaround is to switch this off & use the (huge) usb Belkin wireless adaptor they have sent me. This is all very well but as far as I am concerned this is just a fudge & as I have no confidence in using the notebook the way I intended to (the reason I bought it) it is not fit for purpose. I feel strongly that I am entitled to either a replacement notebook or a full refund. I have a colleague who has exactly the same model with no such problem (they have had theirs over a year). Sony will only say that they are working on this problem & I have been given a temporary solution. I say that I bought the notebook because it had inbuilt wireless capability.
Has anyone else had this problem or has any suggestions on how to take this further? I think it is unacceptable of Sony to expect me to put up with this when I paid £600 for the machine & it does not do what it's supposed to!
Thanks in advance,
David
do welcome whether you solved this problem?
Hi.
Sony are picking the machine up this week. Apparently they have a fix for it. I do not know what that involves though.
Regards.
Yes my girlfriend has exactly the same problem on her laptop, she has a VGN-11G laptop, it started doing it soon after she bought it and called sony, they guided her through re-installing the BIOS but it still does it, she will be phoning them again soon to have it repaired or replaced.
My initial thoughts were that the RAM is faulty, im glad it is a recognised problem!
My commiserations to her!
So far, Sony have been completely useless with mine. I don't find it acceptable to have to send it back for repair when I reported it months ago. Plus ALL Sony kit is overpriced, particularly in Europe & rarely is it better than other manufacturer's.
Certainly won't be buying a PS3!
