I have recently purchased a VAIO VGN-FE41Z laptop, which comes with VISTA Home Premium edition preloaded. I then proceeded to upgrade via Anytime Upgrade to VISTA Ultimate edition.
Since then, the sound has stopped working. The speaker icon in the system tray appears with a cross over it, when clicked it displays the message:
"No Audio Output device is installed"
When an application which requires sound is launched, such as Windows Media Player or WinDVD, it does not proceed to work, and a message such as the following appears:
"Original Error Code:
C00D4E84
Original Error Message
No audio playback device was found."
I have asked Microsoft for help and have followed their advice to both look for an upgrade driver (comes back with: I already have the latest driver installed) and also removing the sound device and allowing Windows to reinstall it when rebooting.
I'm getting no further responses from Microsoft and have not received any response yet to other lines of enquiry, including the VAIO technical support.
Is there anyone else that's experienced the same problem? does this mean just waiting until someone develops an updated driver? I do need to work with Vista Ultimate and don't want to roll back to Home Premium.
Cheers to anyone who can advise me.
Have had exactly the same problem. Will inform of any outcome.
I've the exact same problem, tryed to reinstall all drivers unsuccessfully!
The Sony vaio quality in decreased a lot! I donn't have any restore dvd!!!
I have a VGN-AR31S.
Thank to who can help.
Guys your are aware that you have to re-install the utilities when you install vista ultimate...? Look in the downloads section and you'll find a copy of the utilities matching you computer install these and all should be okay.. Hope this helps
I have got the same problem: SOLUTION is to download Drivers & Utilities (Sony Website) and to unzip those files. Then Uninstall the sound card in the device manager and SHUT DOWN the computer. Start after a wile, then Vista will automaticaly install the driver. If the driver is not found, you have to indicate the path of the driver you have downloaded on Sony website. AND IT WORKS !
Excuse for my poor English. Good luck.
