Notebook makes a little noise

I have a question to all user of a Sony VAIO Notebook VGN-A317M!
My notebook makes a little little noise like "knig knig" every some Minutes. Its really a little noise but is that normal? Comes this noise from the HDD of the notebook.

My VGN-A17GP also makes this noise. I am unsure if it is anything to do with the throttling down of the processor, or maybe the switching of the fan unit, but laptop has performed without any glitches, now 10 months old, so I would not worry about the noise.

I have not a VGN-A, but I'm sure it's the harddisk. Which switch on and off.
Do you hear this everytime, or only if you use the battery?

I hear it everytime! Sometimes I think every three to ten minutes!

That's definitely the Harddisk. Don't worry about this. The fan on VGN-A is nearly silent (correct me if I'm wrong) at normal usage. The result is that you can hear, some strange noises which I don't can hear.

yup its the HDD.. and compare to my old vaio, that noise is near to nothing... and what fan?.. did i had a fan inside my a317s??
