I just wonder if anyone has the alleged graphic problem with your vaio series. I got AR51J with 8400m GT early this year. So far it works fine, but not sure it would die shortly :smileysad:. What's the sony's response?
origin story: All Nvidia G84 and G86s are bad

Hi Thalamus,
i was afraid that was what i needed to do, but before i go any further is the 8400M GS the same graphics card as the ones discussed in this thread where everyone has had the problem?
I have a VGN-SZ660N which is bought in the US. But since i work in Europe i dont know where to go for my problem.
Hi lchang87,
welcome to Club VAIO..
Unless you have purchased an overseas warranty for your Vaio then official technical support will unfortunately have to be sought from Sony USA..

FINALLY!
After an over two month long waiting period, two months of broken promises and utter disappointment, my ordeal with Sony's service (Teleplan) seems to finally be over. (see my other posts in this thread).
Yesterday I gave up and my patience with Teleplan was over. They told me that they didn't know when the third motherboard should arrive. The just told me to wait a bit longer so I told them that I've waited for over two months already. I also told them that I will try to talk to Sony Finland if they would have solution. So yesterday I called Sony Finland and spoke to the product manager and the service manager and today they called me back and told me that they could provide me with a new computer. Instead of my Vaio VGN-FZ21M I'll get an all new Vaio VGN-FW51JF/H but I will have to pay 300€ for it but it's still a good deal because it is far better than my old. Also worth mentioning is that the new computer comes with a full 2 year warranty which is unusual. If everything goes according to the plan it will arrive next week.
Conclusion: If you are experiencing problems with Sony's service - don't call the support (Teleplan), call your local Sony branch.
Good luck to you all!

Hi Guys,
The Sony esuppot US link is interesting, does anyone know if there is a similar policy in the UK? My Vaio is 6 months out of Warranty and I'm worried if anything should go wrong.
Also, I'm unsure if to post this in seperate topic before I contact support: my FZ21Z's screen is showing a blotchy yellow patch around the bottom right hand side. This appears randomly and sometimes not at all. Is this a power / or graphics card issue?
I'd like to add that I've been delighted with this Vaio except for the battery life and searing heat eminating from the left grill. That and the fact I never received my Blu Ray Copy of Spiderman that my Vaio Box promised.
Cheers,
Mig
Hi blaufisk,
Did you pay the 220 pounds in the end? I had the same experience and I was just as suspicious. I relented though and payed it because I was so fed up I didnt want it to have it to go back to the repair centre ever again. I got my Fz21S back last Monday, after a couple of strange looking graphic wobbles it went completely on Thursday night. Its going back to the repair centre!
When I got it back it still said it had the Nvidia 8600m GS graphics card. Do they replace inherently faulty products with the same inherently faulty ticking timebomb product??
The service has been shocking from start to finish and I want proper compensation. All emails I send are never replied to, and calls are not followed up with proper answers.
P.S. As it seems that Sony customer service are as useful as a chocolate teapot does anyone have a contact number in the UK for Sony that might have some pulling power on this whole issue?
Hi,
Do you have the phone number of Sony Uk MD by any chance? I feel I need to take this to the top if I am to get a fair resolution to the problem.
Cheers
Well, my graphics card went last night.
I've got the blue vertical lines down the screen and now Windows is using the basic Generic VGA Adapter and the Nvidia card is not found.
I've got a Vaio VGN-FZ21M, the card (RIP) was a GeForce 8400M.
I bought my Vaio in April 2008 so I guess I'm out of warranty, I bought it through a small dealer on Amazon here in the UK.
So, anyone got any advice on how I should pursue this? I haven't got any money (credit crunch) so paying upwards of £200 is simply out of the question for me.

Hi Sealbhach,
welcome to Club VAIO..
I think it's wise to contact vaio support because if your vaio has a faulty nVidia chip then the repair should be free of charge, even if your vaio's out of warranty..
Thanks Thalamus,
I've done as you suggested and lodged a written request so hopefully I can get it repaired for free.
