Nvidia G84m/G86m faulty chip happen to Vaio??

I just wonder if anyone has the alleged graphic problem with your vaio series. I got AR51J with 8400m GT early this year. So far it works fine, but not sure it would die shortly :slight_frown: :smileysad:. What's the sony's response?

Hello All,

i have given my laptop to the repair centre from the past 5-6 week before so many times i called them and email to sony support .. but no proper reply ..how long they will take ..

Hello vikasnaugraiya,
I think, it is problem with German repair centre. I remember that someone on this thread only (if you dig back on posts) had complained that german repair centre did similar things 2-3 times and in the end they broke laptop and after lots of argument and top officials interference, they gave new laptop to that lady.

My vaio FZ11L has similar problems 2-3 months ago when sony has accepted nvidia fault just after. I argued and my laptop was sent to france repair centre (even from Norway, I had bought it in UK) and they repaired it within 2-3 working days. They did not touch any installation and other stuff. The overheating problem is also gone after repair however they did not tell if they have replaced or repaired motherboard. But so far it is working absolutely fine however my battery now dies very soon. So, in nutshell it is too much time they are taking, u must approach higher authorities and pressurize them. Good Luck

I have exactly the same problem as your photos show. Sony guys told me it'll cost me up to £700.00 . This is just a theft in a clear daylight. I will not pay this even if I have to recycle my laptop. My Laptop is VAIO NR21Z/T. I'm trying to find a link to order the chip which might cost about £50 and replace it myself or leave to a local computer repair shop to replace it with the faulty one.

I tell you Sony, not only I wont buy any Sony products, I will tel my experience with you to every one I know to encourage them to not buy Sony. I have also signed all the petitions related to this problem. in the last 3 days I'm just effing Sony.

My general tip to those who experiences the same problem as me (problems with Sony service on one or several occasions, see my earlier posts) is to call Sony again and again and again and again... Sooner or later they will understand that they really have big problems. Sony doesn't at the moment acknowledge that they have serious problems with their service partner in Germany. My computer has now been "serviced" two times and both times the motherboard has been exchanged but the same problems still remains. I've now emailed Sony a long illustrated letter which describes my problems (every time my computer has crashed or returned I've taken pictures of it). When the support team looked at the pictures they could easily conclude that the computer still has problems with the graphics card. I've know been told that the whole matter has been "escalated" and that a manager will call me today. (Actually they should have called me last Wednesday but they didn't so I had to call them again). I've requested a new computer because I have no trust in Sony´s service any more. They have ****** up time after time and has also managed to scratch and bend the computer housing.

So my advice is to be stubborn! I don't think Sony will look at a tiny petition. The only way forward is to contact the support team and if that won't work - call your local head office. The only problem is that it takes a lot of time, I reckon that I've spoken to the support team for several hours in the last two months.

It's also worth mentioning that my computer is used commercially so I've every time been told that I will get the Vaio VIP service - NOW I KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS!

Good luck to you all!

I don't know about German offices. You perhaps can search on internet or someone on this thread can help you. You should talk to ur dealer and get clear report and get order no etc and then call sony customer support with order no etc. Even after sony receives laptop then they provide facility that u can track progress of laptop repair. E-mailing them will not be enough. Make consistent phone calls and argue...

Good Luck

I am cont.. contacting to sony support.. all time only one answer that they have esclated the case..
Dealer also doing the same for me ...but i think sony is the consumer money sucker nowadays ,they have no more goodwill..
Only i will wait for few days..
If someone give me contact with case ID that will be more helpful...
I can see only one solution we should combine together and file a case against sony for a new unit if they cannt repair properly..

Just got my FZ21Z back from repair centre. Seems to be working ok after replacing M/B.
Repaired for free.
Lets hope it will now hold out for more than 16 months...

Hi,
I have a VGN-SZ660N which is bought in the US. But since i work in Europe i dont know where to go for my problem.
Lately ive had issues where my computer just completely freezes and i have to force shut down. Problem occured once and worked fine for a few days and then its happened more and more.
But sometimes when i try and boot, after the bios loading i just get a black screen and nothing happens.
Ive tried everything check disk, system restore, bios reset, format and reinstall vista.
My laptop has the Nvidia 8400M GS card i was wondering if this could be the same card as mentioned in this thread?

Hi lchang87,

welcome to Club VAIO..

Unless you have purchased an overseas warranty for your Vaio then official technical support will unfortunately have to be sought from Sony USA.. :slight_frown:
