nVidia GeForce Go 6200 Drivers?

Hey,

Recently upgraded to Vista on my Vaio FS 215s notebook. Tried to get the drivers, downloaded the usual forceware thingy which covers the 6000 series cards - it said something about not finding any hardware to suit the drivers.

So I just went through the device manager and updated it myself, although in the list of all the drivers I wasnt sure which one it was. The options are... 6200, 6200, 6200, 6200 A-LE, 6200 LE, 6200 Turbocache, etc etc.

Chose 6200 turbocache, and now im on the first 6200 driver. It seemed to crash DWM alot on the turbocache one.

How do I know which driver I need for this? Does it really matter?

I've noticed that DWM is very sluggish with this card/driver, is that normal?

I've also noticed that it seems to think the 6200 card has 32mb of memory, and another 200mb taken from the ram. Thats confusing, as when I bought it im sure it was 128mb overall, with 64mb dedicated to the card and the rest shared.

Weird!

Any thoughts?

Hi DG55,

You are trying to install the Desktop Computer nVidia 6200 drivers - you need the mobile "Go" 6200 drivers.

The correct drivers for your Go 6200 will not install because nVidia does not support the "Go" mobile cards. They rely on Sony to issue the updated drivers - this happens on Blue Moons only!

Do not despair, you can update your driver to a new vista version by downloading the Driver AND the Modded .INF from here: -

and following the installation instructions here: -

Thanks for the help, I would have never found this otherwise!

Does this work any better than the desktop drivers? Should it have better performance with DWM?

I'll give it a go tonight.

Cheers!
