overheating

HI!

For a couple of days my vaio has been getting really hot - I think the fan has stopped working. The right side of the metal casing (where I suppose the fan is housed) is almost too hot to touch. I've also heard a clicking noise come from this place a couple of times, which I'd never heard before. How can I find out if this is a software or a hardware problem, and what should I do? Is it still safe to use my notebook?

Have you tried cleaning the cooling vents of dust with compressed air (you should be able to get this from your local PC shop), check the instructions on the can before using because if used incorrectly you could damage the fan..
