Partition copy(clone) to new HDD replacement

I wonder, if I copy my current Windows partition to a new hard disk that I want to replace my old (currently running) disk, will be Windows (on the new disk) complaining that it runs on a different hardware and wants to be reactivated or there is no such problem at all.

Hopefully, drivers for the new HDD will be installed when the new HDD will be detected during the first time Windows boot. This is the case for Win98.

I must confess that I am not entirely certain what you are asking here pmitev, but if you need to reinstate the operating system onto a new hard drive then you can use your recovery disks. This should not present any problems, but will return your notebook to “as delivered”.

If however you a looking to clone the existing hard drive with all installed programs plus operating system etc, you will need software along the lines of Acronis True Image.

Your better off doing a clean install always.
