If I plug in an external monitor everything is displayed but using the PCG-K415B monitor it remains black. I cannot find a manual to help me troubleshoot so can anyone help? Local shops seem to want to charge the earth to investigate - any thoughts on potential causes?
I'd even thought it may be something simple like Presentation mode being switched on but cannot see where that is set. Probably not this though.
Welcome to ClubVAIO, PCG-K415BUser,
In the User manual, page 29 :
Combination and Functions with the
Toggles between the LCD, external device (Monitor or TV depending which device is connected) and both LCD and External device.
Take a look in the manual here
ClubVAIO Expert, thank you.
I thought it may be Fn + F7 so I tried that but with no success. It looks like it may be a hardware fault in that case so I'll have to see if I can open it up as £55 just to look at the laptop is too painful and then God knows how much more to repair it.
Thanks for your help.
Hi PCG-K415BUser,
welcome to Club VAIO..
As you have checked the Vaio's brightness settings and the desktop appears when you connect to an external monitor, it sounds like it could possibly be the inverter or a faulty cable or backlight bulb..
I suggest you contact Vaio support to arrange a repair, either by clicking Support at the top of this page or use the following link:Vaio support
Under Log-in option 2: Select your VAIO model, next to Select Model Category - Select your model from the drop down list, in your case PCG K
Then next to Select Model - select K415B
Then click Log-In, the click on the Get in Touch tab
Or
Alternatively you could try contacting one of the Sony's service partners, click the following link for details - Service partners
Thalamus and itbroker - thank you both. I'll check the cable etc as the laptop is out of warranty and,if I cannot repair it myself will contact Sony or a Partner.
Thank you both.
You're welcome, hope all goes well.
