printer confusion

I HAVE A HP 940c printer and swap it between a pc running windows ME,and a vaio laptop runing vista.
could this be confusing the printer and cause bad results.

Sadly HP chose not to fully suppot some older printers when Vista was released.

There was such an outcry that HP released the most basic diver that would allow a Vista PC to print anything at all. This means that most of the printer's advanced features do not work with your new Vaio - very basic printing only.
