problem with divx

I have a new fe41S and I have a problem with divx playback and windows vista

two weeks ago all divx movies (.avi & .mpg) and xvids was played correctly both in media player than in media center

then (I don't remember how because I was updating various drivers and software) both ms programs won't display divx files no more (only wmv)
I have installed gspot to check if the codecs are correctly installed but it says NOT INSTALLED. But I HAVE INSTALLED even divx 6.5 than xvid 1.something

the error code of wmp is codec missing, but if I use divx player (the one bundled with divx codec) everything goes well and I can see all my divx.

I have found nothing on internet to help my problem: is this the palladium metro legend?

thanks.

Hi rkappa and welcome to the forum.

I have no ideas on this really but normal troubleshooting procedure is to try a system restore to a point prior to the problem or uninstall the Windows updates.

Which third party software have you installed or updated?

You should uninstall all DivX and Xvid codecs from the machine and reboot. Now install them again, this should solve conflicts codec packs have caused you.

Sorry it's been delayed this response

I have uninstalled divx and xvid then I have rebooted, then reinstalled divx but same error has occurred (error C00D1199)

unfortunately I can't simply uninstall everything because I have many softwares and I don't know precisely when divx has stopped to work, but many things changed since last time I have seen divx movies.

third party software installed

openoffice 2.2
gimp
premiere SE and Photoshop elements (bundled with notebook)
firefox
google earth
google sketchup
avast antivirus
itunes
picasa

and not much more.

really I don't know how resolve this thing

the strange is that gspot says that no divx codec is installed.

maybe in registry I can find some list of codex? like the one in win95. I can't find it in control panel in windows vista.

....
