Since about a week my DVD drive doesn´t work anymore.
I keep getting a message that there is no DVD drive installed when starting programs requesting the original CD in the drive. The DVD drive is not showing in the in "Explorer". When entering the Device Manager I see the DVD drive with a "!" and the error code 10. What can I do? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi ulrick,
Go to start > Run and type devmgmt.msc then click OK.
The Device Manager window should open, open the DVD/CD ROM drives, right click on your drive and select Uninstall.
Then Re-boot your Vaio to reinstall the drivers
Hi Thalamus,
Thanks for the suggestion. I tried, but got the message that the driver were not installed and that I should contact the manufacture for help on installing drivers.
Do you have another suggestion?
Cheers

Hi Ulrick,
Unfortunately a Code 10 error usually means a hardware fault - you would get this error code if the cable to the drive was disconnected. It is the error code produced when the system can't find any other error to blame - a bit of a 'catch all'.
I think you need to contact Sony Vaio-Link as it sounds like a replacement drive may be needed.
Before Sony will take the Vaio in for repair, they will ask you to carry out a full Recovery of drive C:\ as this often fixes the problem, so it is probably worth backing all important data up and carrying out a drice C: recovery using your Recovery Discs.

Hi Thalamus, Blencoco
Thanks for you suggestions. I carried out a System Recovery and not a Full Recovery (I´m most likely really a "newbie"...I didn´t know that I had to make recovery discs...) and it worked. My DCD drive is now running again. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP .
Cheers

Good news..
