Problems after loading 2000 on a new Vaio

hi there

i recently was given a vaio model no. PCG-GRT995MP by my company and as it is our policy to use windows 2000 we had to remove XP and load it with 2000. after this a bunch of stuff didn't work (modem, network adaptor etc) but i've managed to get it all working apart from two things.....

1. firstly, does anyone know who makes the touchpad? i want to be able to turn off the taps for the touchpad as i don't like it and keep moving files and folders without realising. i cannot use the cd to load it as the cd that came with the pc tried to reload xp whenever i try and use it. sony haven't been much help, they told me to reload xp, copy the files i need to a cd or something, then reload 2000 and use the new cd, but i don't really want to do that. if i knew who made the touchpad i thought maybe i could get 2000 compatible s/w from them. any ideas? an example of how annoying this is is that i have now retyped this message about 4 times because i have touched the pad by mistake and god knows what has happened.

2. secondly, i am having similar problems with my CD drive. i have a CRX-830E CD-RW/DVD ROM drive and it looks to me like i should be able to read and write both CDs and DVDs, according to the spec. is this correct? i can see info on dvds in the properties of the drive, but whenever i put a dvd into the drive i get a message telling me i can't play dvds (sorry this is vague but i don't have a dvd on me to test it again). i clearly can't use my sony cd to reload the s/w as in question 1, but if anyone knows what package it is maybe i can get the software from somewhere else.

any ideas would be really appreciated. thanks.

To play a DVD you will need to install something like PowerDVD or Intervideo WinDVD.

The touchpad is probably Synaptics or Alps.

FYI My FR415 is an ALPS pad, saying this because they are both PCG range and are probably common.

The dvd, according to what you have put above, will read and write cd's and only read DVD's.
