Hi, i've inherited an old RX-201 and didn't have the install or recovery disks.
Rather than scrap it, i reformatted and reinstalled XP but can't find the sound drivers anywhere.
The sony site allows me to download the preinstalled drivers but the ADI1881A instal.exe will not run?
I'm sure i'm not the only person who's had this, any tips gratefully received.
Hi Nealhumpo and welcome.
Hmmmm ..... That looks like a Win2000 installer.
Try right-clicking on the smwdm.inf installer INF file and choose "Install".
If that does not work, try installing from within Device Manager: -
Hi Blencogo, thanks for the reply, unfortunately it says hardware not installed as it couldn't find the necessary software.
any other suggestions? i agree it does look like a Win2000 file, surely there must be an XP version out there somewhere?
This sounds daft, but is it possible to Email Sony as aska question about this sort of issue?
All of the links i follow end up witha premium rate phone number, am i being a numpty?
Hi,
i've had another 2 suggestions to get these drivers, but ultimately they are all pointing to the same package on fifferent sites, rearing my hair out now, anyone help???????
Unfortunately, no solutions but another suggestion.
The newer PCV-RX301 uses the same audio chip ADI AD1881A. You could try installing the original SiS Audio Driver (ADI AD1881A) and then the update available under 'Latest XP Downloads'. It may or may not work beacause although the audio chip is the same the system chipset is different.

You will need to extract the downloaded .EXE file and install the driver from within Device Manager.

The RX401 uses the Yamaha Chip - so that is no use.
Googling for "ADI AD1881A driver" gives a dozen or so hits - all you can do is try them all.
It's all I can think of????
