Hi there, first post! I really need to restore the Sony Vaio VGN-NW11S (for the 2nd time) and it says to create recovery discs, now if I were to create a recovery disc when the laptop has a virus will this not then just get passed on to the disc? May be a stupid question but Im really stuck ! And do I need further discs to do this, as I cannot find the original discs 😞 x thanks everyone
Hi tubofjelly,
welcome to Club VAIO..
No if you create a set of recovery disc's they will not be affected by a virus.
Normally Vaio owners use 2 DVD's when creating a set of recovery disc's, usually DVD+R discs by Verbatim, TDK or Sony seem to the popular choice.
The image attached below should help guide you through the process..
Thank you very much, I have tried to create these discs but it keeps saying it cannot find the recovery drive, I have restarted the computer numerous times and this is still the case. Is there anyway I can just get rid of everything and start from scratch without any discs? Im totally new to this and really need to get this fixed because the virus is not going away. I have restored to previous dates when there was no virus but still it persists. Please help !! xx
You're Vaio has a hidden HDD recovery partition so as long as it has not damaged by the virus then you should be able to recover your Vaio back to the original installed OS and programs just as it was when you first used your Vaio.
To do this Start your Vaio and when you see the Vaio logo screen press F10 repeatedly this normally starts the recovery process..
Thank you so much! It is so simple, I done exactly what you said and here we are virus free:) so glad you replied !:)
You're welcome tubofjelly..
