Replacing hard drive Sony NW20EF laptop

Helping a friend to replace his hard drive on Sony NW20EF since old one died on him

He purchased a Samsung HM500JI SATA hard drive (500gb)

Once installed, accessing the BIOS reports it as "ATAPI" under hard disk drive heading

It doesnt show it as a 500gb SATA (unless they are the same?)

We nonetheless tried to reinstall the factory software using the Sony recovery discs and a message comes saying "Capacity of C drive is too small & cannot be resized. If you chose to continue this programme may fail"

Sure enough when we continue an error 334 message comes up and we cannot progress any further and have to abort the recovery process.

Anyone have any idea whats going on?

Why is the BIOS recognising the hard drive as an ATAPI hard drive when its a SATA (unless these are the same thing) and why doesnt it state its 500gb in the BIOS

Is this the incorrect hard drive for this model or did we have to do something prior to the new hard drive so that its properly recognised by the BIOS?
