does anyone have a problem with there screen on the s3 series, every now and then it flickers. is this normal
i have a new s3xp and the screen 'blinks' or goes to a slightly lower brightness. im starting to find these sony vaios pretty shite
Hi
What sort of stuff were you running when this happens?
Are your drivers up to date?
You can get phone numbers for Sony and any available updates from
Vaio-Link
It happened to me and I think I know how to cure it. It happens when your battery is re-charging and I believe its the video-driver.
In the NVidia settings go to the Geforce settings tab which gets you the flyout Setting dialog. Go to Smart Dimmer. Select the Battery setting from the drop-down and Un-Tick "Enable Smart Dimmer when using Battery".
Since I did that it no longer happens.
My theory is that in the charging cycle there is a quick switch to battery to measure whether its charged. I think the Video Driver detects that we are on battery for a few microseconds and Smart Dims, then sees the power come back and goes to the screen brightness you use when on AC.
Anyway, I don't get it happen anymore. I did download latest NVidia drivers from Sony Update - but that bug is still there.
thanks for that, ive made the change to the laptop, and see what happens.
Screen flicker is classed as a hardware problem, if you get in touch with Vaio Link they will most likely call it in for repair. It's not an unusual problem.
Apparently it's the circuit from the battery bay which interferes with the graphics chip on the mobo.
Has to go for a repair.
